  • Submissions are open to any playwright whether from South Carolina, the region, country, or from around the world! 
  • Multiple entries per playwright/playwright’s representative is permitted.
  • Playwrights must submit a cover letter along with their script that includes a brief summary of the play, a description of the playwright's connection to South Carolina, and a suggestion of the unique perspective or experience provided by the playwright's body of work.
  • NO entries may be previously published.
  • Likewise, NO entries may have previously fully realized, regionally produced performances through the dates of the Centre Stage New Play Festival 2023 (previous readings and workshops are acceptable).
  • Entries may have NO more than seven (7) actors required.
  • All entries must be no more than 120 pages, but one-act and full-length plays are welcome.
  • Scripts must be in the Traditional or Modern format for plays as defined by the Dramatists Guild. 
  • While screenplays and 10-minute plays will NOT be accepted, musicals and plays with music may be submitted.

AUDITIONS/DESIGN INTERVIEWS
If you are interested in participating, please fill out our Prelude Interview Form below. Entries may include musical theatre, non-musical theatre, playwriting or poetry for performance, or theatrical design presentations. Due to the intimacy of our performance space, we ask that any group performances not involve any more than 10 students.

When requesting  your audition slot, you will go through a two-step process:
 

  1. Create an account through our Submittable database system.
  2. Complete and submit the Prelude Submission Form from our website. This includes completing all information on the form, and uploading your headshot and resume along with any other pertinent materials.

Once both steps have been completed you should receive an email confirming the receipt of your submission. Please direct any questions to auditions@centrestage.org.
GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY:
 

  • Submissions are open to any high school or college student currently enrolled in an educational institution in South Carolina.
  • Students submitting design presentations must present materials demonstrating their designs from concept to rendering. If designs were fully executed, a sample or picture of the final design is recommended as part of the presentation.
  • Playwriting or original poetry entries must be submitted via our Submittable database at the time of entry and must be performed or cast by the student if selected for the showcase.
  • A headshot and resume must be submitted at the time of the audition or interview if not via the Submittable database in advance.
  • Multiple types of entries may be submitted by the same student.
  • All entries must be theatre-related. Performance pieces from film, television, or other non-theatrical pieces will not be accepted.
  • All students selected for inclusion in the showcase will have the opportunity to be considered for internships in their interest area at Centre Stage the following year as well as scholarships.

2024 - 2025 Season 

Centre Stage will be attending UPTA's, SCTA's Upstate Unified Auditions, as well as holding our Season Auditions February 24th, 2024, as well as in the summer of 2024. To be considered for a position in any production, we advise that you submit and/or update your information through this portal.

Although a video monologue, vocal, and dance video are not required, you are strongly encouraged to provide this information to give us the most complete idea of your interests and abilities. Please limit submissions to no longer than 90 seconds each. 

Audition Notices and Character Breakdowns for our upcoming season will be posted on our website under the Actors and Production tab when made available.

APPLICATION PROCESS

For priority consideration, complete a DIRECTOR'S APPLICATION and submit by February 22, 2024. Earlier submissions are appreciated.

Centre Stage will accept late submissions, but cannot guarantee that they will be considered for the 2022-2023 season. To be considered as a Guest Director for Centre Stage you must complete/update this application, even if you have directed at Centre Stage before.
